Denise Chester Coaching
Scope of Practice/Coaching Disclaimer
As an adult adoptee, qualified professional coach, and practitioner-in-training of Integrated Somatic Psychology (ISP), my practice focuses exclusively on present-day emotional capacity, somatic regulation, and behavioural pattern shifting.
1. Nature of the Service
Present-Focused Somatic Coaching: Utilising bottom-up, body-to-mind approaches to help you expand your capacity to tolerate and process difficult emotions (such as grief, fear, or rejection) in the present day.
Behavioural Pattern Shifting: Partnering with you to identify and dismantle lifelong relational habits (e.g., hyper-independence or chronic people-pleasing) that may stem from early maternal separation.
Forward-Looking Method: Coaching focuses on present-day embodiment, nervous system regulation, self-awareness, and future-focused life transitions.
Adult-Only Service: Services are strictly limited to adults aged 18 and over.
2. What This Service Is Not
Not Medical Healthcare: This service is not medical treatment, clinical psychotherapy, psychiatric care, or mental health counselling. It is a growth and change-focused practice and is not a substitute for professional mental health care.
Not Trauma Therapy: While we explore somatic themes related to the "separation wound," this work does not involve clinical trauma processing, regressive therapy, or the treatment of diagnosed mental health conditions (such as PTSD, C-PTSD, or clinical depression).
Not an Adoption Support Agency (ASA): In accordance with UK law, this practice does not provide statutory adoption support, access to official adoption records, or birth relative tracing and intermediary services.
3. Client Responsibility and Acknowledgment
Self-Regulation: By engaging in this coaching, you agree that you are currently psychologically well and stable enough to participate in somatic and behavioural coaching.
Independent Medical Care: You agree to seek independent medical or therapeutic support from a qualified healthcare professional if deep psychological distress, unresolved historical trauma, or mental health symptoms arise outside of our sessions.
Voluntary Engagement: You acknowledge that somatic techniques (such as body awareness, breath, and movement) are educational tools used for emotional regulation, not clinical interventions.
4. Referral and Termination
Clinical Boundary Rights: As the coach, I reserve the right to safely pause or terminate the coaching relationship if your needs exceed the scope of life and somatic coaching.
External Referrals: If coaching is paused or terminated because clinical needs surface, you will be signposted to appropriate external resources. This may include General Practitioners (GPs), registered psychotherapists, or registered UK adoption intermediary services.
